Some may find the very simple appearance of the website weird. Abhorring, even.
Especially these days when it isn’t hard to design a more aesthetically pleasing webiste.
Why DID I CHOOSE THIS 2000s DESIGN THEN?
I hate to break it to you, but the answer isn’t some deep philosophy about me being a minimalistic at heart , at least not consciously.
I wanted to remove any friction to my writing process. Adding a photo on each blog post (probably) makes it more attractive to potential readers as well as search engines.
But what’s the point of thinking that far ahead if there’s no blog in the first place. I did have posts with photos (required) on previous iterations of the blog. But just finding the “right/perfect” photo took a lot of time.
Enough extra time for me to find the whole thing cumbersome and just giving up on the blog eventually.
Just sticking to the bare basics is helping me, this time. I just open up the “new -> post”, start writing and have a post out in a few minutes.
I first came across the KISS (Keep it Simple Stupid) concept, many years ago and it just got stored in a corner of my brain. I recalled it while just writing this post right now.
KISS, an acronym for “Keep it simple, stupid!“, is a design principle first noted by the U.S. Navy in 1960.[1][2] First seen partly in American English by at least 1938, the KISS principle states that most systems work best if they are kept simple rather than made complicated; therefore, simplicity should be a key goal in design, and unnecessary complexity should be avoided

Couldn’t agree more. Sometimes, keeping it simple helps.
